Common questions
Where do I get the app?
It is coming to the App Store, for the Mac, iPhone and iPad. Until then you build it from the source with Xcode, which takes a few minutes; the README walks you through it.
Which devices does it run on?
Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 26 or later, and iPhones and iPads with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later. Speech recognition runs on the Neural Engine; on a Mac a 30-minute meeting is finished about half a minute after it ends.
Does it join my call?
No bot joins. The app records your microphone and the sound your Mac plays, as two separate tracks, so it works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet in the browser and any other call app. On the iPhone and iPad it records the room through the built-in microphone, for meetings around a table. It also transcribes audio and video files you import, such as voice memos.
Does anything leave my devices?
Recordings, transcripts and voices stay on your Mac, iPhone or iPad, and in your own private iCloud if you turn on sync. Only if you turn on summaries with Anthropic, OpenAI or Google does the meeting's text go to that service, with your own API key. With a local model in Ollama even that stays on the Mac. The details are in the privacy policy.
Can I record on my iPhone and read on my Mac?
Yes, with Settings › General › iCloud › Sync with iCloud on each device (the iPhone also offers it when it starts the first time). Meetings, people and the voices the app learned are then the same everywhere, and the recordings too unless you turn off Include recordings. They are kept in the private database of your iCloud account, which only your devices can read. On the iPhone a recording shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and Record a Meeting can sit in Control Center or on the Action Button.
How do I get the action items into another tool?
Copy them. The button above a meeting's action items copies them as a checklist with owner and due day, ready for a chat, a ticket or a note; each task copies from its row, and every other part of the summary from the button beside its heading. ⇧⌘C copies the whole summary as Markdown.
It shows meetings I'm not in.
Events with guests that you're neither invited to nor organizing, as in a team's shared calendar, don't show up. For the others, click the meeting under Upcoming and choose Not my meeting to hide the series or everything from its calendar; the reminder has that button too. Settings › General brings them back.
Do I need headphones?
No. With speakers the call comes back into your microphone; after the meeting the app takes that echo out of your track, so every voice is in the transcript once and your own lines stay complete.
How does it know who is speaking?
Confirm a voice once, and the app recognises that person in every later meeting. Names from the conversation (“Thanks, Jonas”, “this is Paula”) and the calendar's invitees become suggestions you accept with a click. When it isn't sure, it says so: “Hai or Julian?”. After a meeting, Who Is This? goes through the voices it doesn't know yet, with a sample of each.
Which languages does it understand?
The interface speaks English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian. Meetings are transcribed in 25 European languages, also mixed in one meeting, and best in these ten.
The transcript has only my voice, or nothing at all.
Transcripts needs two permissions, which macOS asks for the first time you record: Microphone for your voice and Screen & System Audio Recording for the call. Both are in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Also check that the microphone isn't muted; the app warns you while recording when either track stays silent.
Which summary services can I use?
Anthropic, OpenAI and Google with your own API key, or a local model in Ollama. Enter one under Settings › AI; summaries are then written after each meeting, or when you ask, in the meeting's language or one you choose.
Am I allowed to record my meetings?
Tell the people in a meeting that you record it. In many countries, Germany among them, you need everyone's consent. The app never starts recording by itself; the reminders only ask. More in the terms.
How do I remove my data?
Delete a meeting or a person in the app, or have recordings deleted after 30 days or right after
transcribing (Settings › Recording). To remove everything, delete the app and its folders in
~/Library/Application Support (Transcripts and FluidAudio). With iCloud
sync on, Delete from iCloud under Settings › General › iCloud removes the copy in iCloud. More in
the privacy policy.
Does it cost anything?
No. Transcripts is free and open source; the code is on GitHub. Summaries from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google cost what those services charge for your API key.
