Common questions

Do I need a GitHub account?

To work with your own issues, yes. To look around first, tap Explore with Sample Data on the first screen: two sample projects, stored on your device, where every feature works.

How do I sign in?

With Sign in with GitHub, or with a personal access token (classic) that has the repo, project and read:org scopes. Signed in on one of your devices, the others sign in by themselves through iCloud Keychain.

Why don't I see my issues?

Boards show the issues that are in a GitHub Project, with the project's Status field as their columns. The repositories your projects use are in the sidebar too, with all their issues: those on none of your boards are listed under No project, and one click puts them on a board. My Issues shows every open issue assigned to you, on a board or not. An issue labelled epic is planned on its board’s roadmap rather than in a column, and its sub-issues name it. A project’s view shows only what its filter finds, the chips over its issues: open another view, or remove a chip, to see more.

An organisation's projects are missing.

Some organisations only allow apps their owners have approved. Ask an owner to approve Issues, or sign in with a personal access token that has access to the organisation.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every change shows at once and waits on the device until there is a connection, then goes to GitHub. When someone else changed the same text in the meantime, the edits are merged, and where they overlap you choose which to keep.

What shows up in the Inbox?

Your GitHub notifications about issues and pull requests: when someone assigns you, mentions you or your team, comments on an issue you follow, asks for your review, or closes, reopens or merges one. Releases, CI runs and discussions stay on GitHub. What you read or archive in the Inbox is read or done on github.com too. GitHub doesn't notify about moved cards or reactions, so neither does the Inbox. Issues of yours that are due show up there as well, on the day and once more the morning after if they're still open. So do issues your own account assigned you to outside the app, with gh, a script or a coding agent signed in as you: GitHub doesn't notify you of what your own account does, so the app looks for them itself. Assigning yourself in the app doesn't show up.

The Inbox says my token can't read notifications.

GitHub doesn't let fine-grained tokens read notifications. Sign in with GitHub, or use a personal access token (classic) with the repo scope; everything else works either way.

Which notifications does it send?

Reminders of due issues: on the day an issue assigned to you is due, and once more the next morning if it is still open. Each of your devices schedules them itself from the due dates, so they come on time; set the time or turn them off in Settings. Other news from GitHub, such as comments and mentions, shows in the Inbox whenever you open the app, but doesn't come as a notification: GitHub can only push those to an app through a server of the app's own, and Issues deliberately has none.

Can a due date have a time?

No. A due date is the project's “Due date” field on GitHub, and GitHub's dates are days without a time. The reminder comes at the time set in Settings, 9:00 at first.

Which languages does it speak?

English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Simplified). It follows the language of your device. To use another one for Issues alone, choose it on iPhone and iPad in Settings › Apps › Issues › Language, and on the Mac in System Settings › General › Language & Region › Applications. What comes from GitHub, such as titles, columns and labels, stays as your team wrote it.

How do I remove my data?

Sign Out removes the copy of your projects, issues and notifications from the device; Sign Out Everywhere also removes the login from iCloud Keychain. Deleting the app removes everything it stored. More in the privacy policy.

Does it cost anything?

No. Issues is free and open source; the code is on GitHub.
